Story summary:

Simmons has been waiting all his life for the day when he would come of age and pledge his service to a liege-master. But at the last minute, all his plans go awry; he is left in the awful position of having to find a liege-master quickly. Desperation may force Simmons to pick the worst of liege-masters.

Working at his uncle's waterfront store on a bay island, Simmons seeks a way out of his dilemma. Then another young man walks through the door, one whose problems may be even worse than Simmons's. . . .

Perhaps, when they spoke next, the other young man could tell Simmons of any masters here who were in need of an apprentice who was perilously close to the age of journeymanship.

Writing historical dialogue

One last post in this series at my blog:

Historical dialogue #4: Slang.

I hope those of you who read any of the posts in the series will contribute your own ideas. I'm hoping to learn from you. :)

Fandom Giftbox, Historical Fandoms

Fandom Giftbox is a low-pressure exchange where you sign up with several fandoms that you want fic/art for, and people volunteer to fill boxes, with the caveat that the collection does not go live unless everyone has at least two fandom-focused gifts. Gifts do not have to be long! They can be drabbles of a minimum 100 words, a pretty clean sketch, etc. As long as the recipient has not DNWed the media type.

These giftboxes are set to open on the 22d of September, though a large amount of them are in need of extra gifts.

Here's a list of those requesting fandoms that are set in the past, or otherwise of interest to those who want to produce history-focused fanworks. I have not listed any crossovers, though they should be clear and accessible in the comm.
