[community profile] kindreadspirits

This is a chat and fanworks community centred around making the most of the gay subtext abundant in a lot of vintage horror and classic ghost stories, namely of the Victorian through the Edwardian era and towards the middle of the 20th Century.

Another main purpose is to actually find the relevant stories within the plethora of horror fiction from the olden days, so a main focus of this community will be to let each other know what we simply must read/listen to at the first opportunity!

We write and gossip about gentlemen haunted by spooks and secret urges alike, so in the fashion of all the best gentlemen's clubs, [community profile] kindreadspirits is members-only. You must be 18 or older to become a member, as some content posted may well be explicit. (Please make sure your profile contains some kind of age statement.)

Chat is very much encouraged! Post about anything related to M/M slash potential in your favourite stories and novels - your chosen pairings and most beloved characters, quotes, and plot points. Post about authors you admire, ask for research or writing help, share interesting story finds and information, tell us about exchanges upon which we might want to descend, moan about your WIPs, ask for beta-readers, suggest challenges, post playlists or icons or mood boards you've made, etc.

There are three new slang entries at the what ho library, a multifandom site. They cover everything from sex to crime to drinking establishments to money and beyond. One entry had to be revised when a major site closed down. But the links were found elsewhere and there should be no problems. The posts cover 1850 to present.

Don't Let Him Gazoomph You

This is general slang, including crime, flapperspeak, and polari, the secret slang of the gay world.

What's An Edwardian Word For Penis?

Self-explanatory.

Has That Salvation-Juggins Lost His Knob?

These are slang terms for race, sexuality, insanity and many other large concepts. Dating back to 1850. Translation: has that religious person gone insane?

At [community profile] what_ho_library , the entry "What Is An Edwardian Word For Penis?" has been updated with British and American timelines of slang for:

Breasts
Commercial Sex
Masturbation
Arse (Down And Dirty)
Defection and Urination

The Timeline slider goes from 1850-present, so it works for just about every fandom, including Jane Austen if you want to get naughty.

At [community profile] give_satisfaction , activity will resume over the holidays.

Happy Holidays!

There is a new entry at [community profile] what_ho_library "Writing Resources - Smut"

At this time there are three gay/straight links.

The Ultimate Guide to Writing Smut; Gay Sex - You're Doing It Wrong; and Minotaur's Sex Tips For Slash Writers. They are all not only informative but a lot of fun to read!

Other types of sexuality and sexual practices will be added over time.

There is a new entry in [community profile] what_ho_library , "Below Stairs: Valets, Maids, And Other Domestic Servants".

It is a collection of links to historical resources about all aspects of servant life in the early 20th century England. Sources include Wikipedia, Jane Austen's World, A Victorian, Mrs. Beeton's Guide To Household Management, and many more.

Including [personal profile] quaffanddoff 's fic, Jackpot, which besides being an excellent fic, has detailed information of a servant's wages and other expenses.

Although it is mostly for Jeeves And Wooster fandom writers, it is also helpful to all writers of historical fic set in 1900-1930. More entries will be forthcoming on a variety of topics. If anyone has one to suggest, please leave it in the comments below.

This is to announce the opening of the [community profile] what_ho_library
This is to be a clearinghouse of information for P.G. Wodehouse writers as well as others who write fic set in the early 20th century, approximately 1900-1935. There will be sections on slang, sex slang, domestic life, WW1, clothing, transportation, and links to information outside of Dreamwidth. It is still under construction, so folks are urged to check it out on a regular basis!

Monthly Challenge/Prompt FIll

There will be no monthly challenge this summer. In the meantime, glance through the prompts, read the fills, enjoy all of the bounteous creativity.

[personal profile] alivehawk1701 posted a multichapter fic, None The Wooster
Summary:
In a somewhat darker hue, we look at how intensely lonely Bertie actually is and what fulfillment could come by just being honest with himself. The only question is how will Jeeves, who is bound by his professional obligations, react to a chance taken. What's more, when Aunt Agatha has a new proposition for marriage, what will they both do and what dangers await . . .

Reference Community

A sister community, as yet unnamed, will be created. It will be a historical reference library, with an emphasis on sex, of course. Also a post to ask questions, essays on Wodehouse (some by me but others as well), history from 1910-1940, and anything else that seems appropriate. I can't think of a name for it. Once you choose a name for a community, that's it. I've been having some trouble coming up with one.

Over at [community profile] give_satisfaction , a member asked, what are the differences in tone and character between the "Jeeves And Wooster" tv show and the P.G. Wodehouse stories?

I put out a call, and the lovely and talented [personal profile] wotwotleigh answered a lot of questions, with input from several others. I've posted it for interested readers.
