Professor Albin Eberhart von Franz has spent years researching strange esoteric mysteries and the paranormal. But in Ellen Hutter, a young woman rumored to be mad, he encounters the greatest mystery of all. The troubled Ellen is drawn to von Franz, a rational man of conscience, who nevertheless embraces the irrationality of the supernatural. Only he believes in her.

United by a deep and enigmatic bond, the two join forces to defeat the ancient menace that threatens the city of Wisborg and all they hold dear.
