Hello [community profile] historium people!

I watched Fury, the 2014 flick about WWII tankers starring Brad Pitt, the other day and was delighted by surprise!Shia LaBeouf and so made a bunch of icons featuring him that I thought perhaps some of y'all might enjoy.

I've put them behind a cut here so as not to clutter up the comm. )

I also wrote an incredibly vague review, for anyone that's interested, and welcome folks who are into this property (or basically any other WWII content) to hit me up! Always looking for more friends. :)

I read this book last night.

Written by Mona Golabek and Lee Cohen, it's based on the true story of Mona's mother, Lisa Jura, who was sent  at the age of 14, from her home in pre-war Vienna on the Kindertransport to England.

The book covers Lisa's years during the war. At first her concern was to find a sponser for her 12 year old sister, Sonia. Without a sponsor, Sonia couldn't board the Kindertransport for England.

Lisa stayed in London during the war. For most of it, she lived at a hostel in Willesden Lane for Kindertransport children. During the day, she worked at a factory which made uniforms for Britain's armed forces. In the evening, she studied music so she could become a concert pianist.

~~~
I really enjoyed the book. It depicts what life must have been like for those children, so far from home, who had no way to find out what was happening to their parents, siblings, and family who were trapped in Europe and unable to escape Hitler's grasp.
I've just tried to put my thoughts down about The Marvelous Mrs. Masiel on my own DW, and it struck me some of you may find it interesting.
I've posted several history fandom-related things to my journal over the past couple of weeks, so I thought I would do a round-up post here in case they were of interest to others:
A review of The Favourite (2018). I finally saw The Favourite, and I loved and was fascinated by it. I highly recommend seeing it if you haven't already; if you have, come talk to me about it!
Reading Wednesday mini-reviews of two recently-published 18th century-related books: The Mermaid & Mrs. Hancock by Imogen Hermes Gowar, historical fiction set in 1780s England, and Tilar J. Mazzeo's biography of Eliza Schuyler Hamilton.
A Yuletide recs post. Five out of the six fandoms I list recs for are historical: The Awakening (2011), The Bedlam Stacks, Carol, Lord Peter Wimsey, and Lynes & Mathey.
And finally, the Yuletide treat I posted this year; Society of Gentlemen fic, Dominic/Silas, 2870 words.
