There’s a new reference post with links for Brit-picking at the [community profile] what_ho_library

! Make sure to read these when writing or betaing those Brit-fics (unless you’re British, in which case you can read them for a laugh).

There are three new slang entries at the what ho library, a multifandom site. They cover everything from sex to crime to drinking establishments to money and beyond. One entry had to be revised when a major site closed down. But the links were found elsewhere and there should be no problems. The posts cover 1850 to present.

Don't Let Him Gazoomph You

This is general slang, including crime, flapperspeak, and polari, the secret slang of the gay world.

What's An Edwardian Word For Penis?

Self-explanatory.

Has That Salvation-Juggins Lost His Knob?

These are slang terms for race, sexuality, insanity and many other large concepts. Dating back to 1850. Translation: has that religious person gone insane?

At [community profile] what_ho_library , the entry "What Is An Edwardian Word For Penis?" has been updated with British and American timelines of slang for:

Breasts
Commercial Sex
Masturbation
Arse (Down And Dirty)
Defection and Urination

The Timeline slider goes from 1850-present, so it works for just about every fandom, including Jane Austen if you want to get naughty.

At [community profile] give_satisfaction , activity will resume over the holidays.

Happy Holidays!

There is a new entry at [community profile] what_ho_library , on Gay and Lesbian culture which will cover 1900-1940.  It is still early days but there are some helpful links.

I've posted several history fandom-related things to my journal over the past couple of weeks, so I thought I would do a round-up post here in case they were of interest to others:

A review of The Favourite (2018). I finally saw The Favourite, and I loved and was fascinated by it. I highly recommend seeing it if you haven't already; if you have, come talk to me about it!

Reading Wednesday mini-reviews of two recently-published 18th century-related books: The Mermaid & Mrs. Hancock by Imogen Hermes Gowar, historical fiction set in 1780s England, and Tilar J. Mazzeo's biography of Eliza Schuyler Hamilton.

A Yuletide recs post. Five out of the six fandoms I list recs for are historical: The Awakening (2011), The Bedlam Stacks, Carol, Lord Peter Wimsey, and Lynes & Mathey.

And finally, the Yuletide treat I posted this year; Society of Gentlemen fic, Dominic/Silas, 2870 words.
