The Hulu TV series The Great has fantastic costumes. The show is set in 18th century Russia, and the best outfits of the show are worn by Catherine The Great. I love how the designers pushed the envelope and really showed Catherine's growth over the three-season series through her costumes. For the [community profile] marchmetamatterschallenge, I wanted to share my meta about her costumes over the three seasons of the show. This was also posted at my journal.

I believe The Great needs a fandom tag?

I've written a bit of meta for Season One of AMC's The Terror that might be helpful for other fandoms dealing with men in Early Victorian England -- namely hygiene, haircare, shaving, and lube on post-Age of Sail polar expeditions. (Post contains general spoilers for canon, but not anything you might not expect from the broad strokes history of the final Franklin expedition.)

I did some analysis of the use of contractions in The Flight of the Heron, a historical novel written in the 1920s and set in the 1740s, including some comparisons with other books written in both those periods. The results may be of interest in terms of what we mean by 'period style' in historical fiction!
