Periods/areas of interest: I'm mostly into pre-1600s European history. 12th/13th century southern France is my big area of interest, but I'm pretty much just an all-purposes medieval and classical studies geek. I'm also fascinated by the Ottoman empire in general, late nineteenth and early twentieth century Britain, the Tokugawa shogunate, Heian Japan, nineteenth century Russia, and the French Revolution. I'm mostly a social history person, and I'm super into art history, dance history, literary history, and queer history.
Historical Fandoms:
Shakespeare's the big one here (specifically the histories), as is classic lit in general. I'm also a huge Hilary Mantel fan. Oh, and I blame watching The Lion In Winter at a formative age for Why I Like What I Like. I also watch a ton of costume dramas but I'm not super clued into what the fandoms are like.
Got any more historical comms we've missed?
Nah, completely new to Dreamwidth
Any other comms/events/ideas you'd like to see here?
I have 0 idea how this whole Dreamwidth thing works, so I'm just gonna go with the flow for now.

Hi and welcome! Your interests are definitely cool! I keep meaning to get more into the pre-1600s European history - I think my education at school neglected to tell any of the interesting parts about it, which is not surprising, and then I just keep running into things and wondering why I didn't know it before (just lately, I've been listening to a few podcasts on Mary Stuart and am wondering why the heck they didn't tell us all that stuff in school [should note that I'm not from an English-speaking country]). But, I also watched The Lion in Winter at a formative age - in my case it was the play being put on in one of the theatres in my then-hometown - and that definitely impressed upon me that history is complex and sexy, though I guess I didn't find enough books on the topic to read more on it, which is why I gravitated more towards newer stuff.

Also, ooh, dance history. I've gotten into ballet during the past few years - both watching and learning it myself - and I'm kind of fascinated by its history and how it's developed through the centuries, though so far I haven't had enough time and energy to get deeper into it.
