I've been posting monthly a series on writing historical dialogue at my blog. Here are the first two posts:
1: Historically tinged language.
2: Writing dialogue for particular periods.
The first post includes quotations from Rosemary Sutcliff and Ursula K. Le Guin on how to handle language in historical fiction and fantasy.
Also, at my
retrohome blog, I posted a reminiscence of what it was like for me being a queer adolescent between 1978 and 1986. It might be helpful to some of you who didn't live through that period, if you're planning to set a story then. (I realize the 1970s and 1980s don't count as history where
historium is concerned, but since the bulk of public activities by queer folk occur post-Stonewall in the United States, I'm hoping I can slip this past.)
