The short answer is, given the nature of history itself and the wide remit of the comm, is yes, it is. There aren't many WWII fandoms that don't in some way deal with Nazis and Nazism, while we also allow many older works - 19th C novels, Golden Age detectives, old films, old television etc. - many of which do unfortunately contain racism (and classism, sexism, imperialism, bigotry, homophobia etc.). We also include real history, which is full of the worst behaviour and events, many of which are also still live issues to people. I don't think that matters can be improved by us outlawing any references to them, nor by automatically banning discussion or promotion of fictional depictions of such events/periods.
This comm is for news, discussion, reviews, resources, links etc. as well as sharing fanworks & fandoms. We (the mods) don't feel, given our remit, that issuing a blanket ban on a large topic (such as WWII, or Nazism) would be appropriate. I am even less comfortable with the idea of setting myself or my fellow mods up as moral arbiters as to which fictional fandoms are acceptable and aren't. One person's offensive material is another person's satire, or exploration of dark themes, protest/anger, irony, subversive comedy etc.
What we do ask is that all sensitive or potentially offensive material is posted via a cut or a link with appropriate warnings so that nobody has to see it unless they actively choose to. There are no exceptions to this rule. If you find anyone posting this kind of content here without using cuts/links + warnings, please let us know.
We're also not an exchange - no one will be obligated to read, write or pinch hit for anybody else's specific fandom, even during communal challenges. (If we should get any sensitive/offensive RPF being promoted as a fandom in the current challenge the mods will deal with that on a case by case basis.)
We will of course reconsider our rules again in the future, if at any point members' behaviour makes that a necessity.
However, we do not allow active racist behaviour from members, hate speech, or harrassment of other members - these are bannable offences. Similarly, directly promoting any racist or similarly offensive ideology in the comm is also not permitted.
