Super terribly late to this, though miss_morland did alert me in good time. Thank you so much for your kind words.
I am so glad you enjoyed reading about Manuel and Beranger, who really did bring about the July Revolution in 1830 that saw the last of the Bourbons in France and eventually the 1848 Revolution that finally established the Republic again <3 Backing up a bit, Manuel was actually the protege of Joseph Fouche, Napoleon Bonaparte's Minister of Police and later, briefly, President -- the royalists and Bourbons got rid of him and he died in exile in 1820, but not without charging Manuel to avenge him. It was a really interesting time period!
Manuel's memoirs and Beranger's poems are available online, and their joint grave is visitable at Pere Lachaise, and I am still as in love with them as I was this Yuletide ;) Would there be some scope for me to pimp my fandom love here, maybe, for Yuletide 2020?
